Right now Webb, who has not declared, is running a lackadaisical campaign. As a comparison, he has 8000 Twitter followers compared to Sander's 52,000 and Hillary's 3.6 million. He has no chance of going anywhere, but would make a wonderful addition to the debates.
Here are some of his points that I that attract me to him.
Webb pays attention to poverty of all races, not just minorities, urban and rural. This connects with white voters who have drifted away from the Democratic party, and connects with me because I spent my early teens in a poor white neighborhood.
He was beating the drum for criminal justice reform for years long before it became popular. ( Indented items are quotes from his website )
This is not a political issue; it is a leadership issue. The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Since I doubt we have the most evil people in the world, many now agree that we’re doing something wrong.Foreign Policy
First and foremost, if a President wishes to conduct offensive military operations, he – or she – should be able to explain clearly the threat to our national security, the specific objectives of the operations, and the end result he or she wishes to obtain.Economic Policy -- he is Main Street rather than Wall Street oriented.
Affirmative Action should be class-based rather than race based. In our present system affirmative action benefits go disproportionately to middle class minorities and leaves poor students of all races out.
